Four players share medalist honors at Spanish International Amateur
Viktor Hovland
CADIZ, Spain — Thirty-six holes of stroke play qualifying for the Spain International Amateur did not yield a definitive medalist as four players tied at four-under par 140.
Viktor Hovland, by virtue of his second-round 67, was granted the No. 1 seed entering match play, which begins Friday at Jerez Golf Club in Spain. Hovland, of Norway, led the field along with Michael Sanders of England, Ivan Cantero of Spain, and Jonathan Thomson of England.
Thomson opened with 69 to lead by a stroke and shot 71 on Thursday. He shot the highest second round of the group, and was given the No. 4 seed.
Recent Sotogrande Cup Individual winner Mario Galiano of Spain just missed qualifying for match play at 78-71 while defending champion Daniel Berna also missed, shooting 80-76.
One American player qualified for match play as Jim Liu of New York shot 70-75 and earned the No. 17 seed. He will face Gary Hurley of Ireland on Friday.
