Gavin Green makes cut on European Tour at Malaysian Open
Gavin Green
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — University of New Mexico senior Gavin received a sponsor's exemption to play in the European Tour's Maybank Malaysian Open, and in his home nation, the Lobo star carded a second-round 68 to jump above the cut line and make the weekend at Kuala Lumpur.
Green finished the event, which was won by Anirban Lahiri of India, in a tie for 25th place, shooting 73-69 on the weekend. At four-under, Green ended the week 12 off the lead, but just five strokes outside of the top-10.
Green, who captured the Western Refining College All-American Tournament for the second straight year last November, made seven birdies along with three bogeys en route to his four-under round on Friday. His Sunday round included another slew of birdies — eight — to go along with three bogeys.
Green and the Lobos men's golf team will head to Hawaii for the John Burns Intercollegiate beginning February 18.
