Chinese amateur Guan Tianlang shoots 70 at Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emrites (Jan. 15, 2015) — Two amateur players are in the field as the European Tour kicks off its "Desert Swing" with the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.
Sixteen-year old Guan Tianlang of China carded a two-under par round of 70 in the opening round this morning and is in a tie for 41st place. Tianlang made headlines back in 2013 when he played in the 2013 Masters at age 14 by virtue of winning the 2012 Asia-Pacific Amateur.
Georgia Tech superstar Ollie Schniederjans is also in the field, but struggled to an opening-round 76 and fell to a tie for 116th.
Tianlang is currently tied with notable professionals like Y.E. Yang and Ernie Els, and trails opening-round leader Martin Kaymer by six shots.
Rickie Fowler and Rory McIllory are tied for eighth place at five-under.
