Joshua Martin
PINEHURST, N.C. (Dec. 29, 2014) — Joshua Martin, a native of Pinehurst, N.C., played the No. 4 and 5 courses at Pinehurst Resort at seven-under (137) and found his way into a three-way playoff at the Donald Ross Junior Championship on Monday. He won the tiebreaker and captured his second major junior tournament in the last two weeks.
Last week in Sea Island, Ga., Martin, who will attend the University of North Carolina next fall, won the Jones Cup Junior Invitational by a stroke over S.M. Lee of Buford, Ga. Now, in his hometown, Martin fired 69-68 to take home the Donald Ross.
Alex Smalley, of Wake Forest, N.C., and Stephen Cerbara of Pennsylvania tied for first place with Martin. Smalley, a Duke commit, shot 66 on Monday while Cerbara, a junior at Holy Ghost Prep outside Philadelphia, shot 67 on Sunday and 70 on Monday.
Earlier this summer, Martin became the youngest player, at age 17, to win the North Carolina Amateur.
