EL PASO, Texas (Nov. 8, 2014) — Seven of the top 50 collegiate players in the United States, representing 18 different universities, are competing at the Western Refining Collegiate All-America Classic this weekend at El Paso Country Club as part of a series of Sun Bowl-affiliated collegiate sporting events.
Notable players in the small 20-player field are 2013 U.S. Amateur Public Links champion Jordan Niebrugge of Oklahoma State, Alabama sophomore Robby Shelton, and 2014 U.S. Amateur quarterfinalist Roman Robledo of Houston.
Playing 36 holes on Saturday's opening day, New Mexico senior Gavin Green carded an even-par 71 in the morning round before tearing up the course in the afternoon with a 62.
He leads by two over USC sophomore Rico Hoey, who came in after Saturday's 36 holes with rounds of 69 and 66.
Missouri senior Ryan Zech posted five-under 66 to lead by one over UCLA junior Jonathan Garrick through 18 holes. Zech shot 71 in the afternoon and is four back in third place.
Garrick is in a three-way tie for fourth place after a second-round 71. Stanford junior David Boote and Barry University junior Adam Svensson are also in at four-under par to share fourth place with Garrick.
