Tennessee Senior Amateur: Four-shot win for Danny Green
JACKSON, Tenn. (Sept. 26, 2014) — Danny Green of Jackson finished right where he wanted to after a pair of 68's in rounds one and two.
Green, playing alongside friends and competitors Buzz Fly and Tim Jackson in the final grouping, got off to a hot start with a birdie at the par-4 first hole. Green would add another birdie at the par-4 seventh to turn in a front side 34.
A double-bogey on the par-4 tenth tested Green’s nerve, but he would cruise from there throwing in another birdie at the par-5 fifteenth hole. Green’s 68-68-71 finish totaled a 9-under par 207 victory.
Finishing in a tie for second place were both Fly and Jackson at five-under par. Jackson pulled off an incredible feat earlier in the summer when he won the Tennessee State Amateur at the age of 55. The title was his sixth.
Harlan Whitley of Franklin captured the 2014 Tennessee Super Senior Amateur Championship with rounds of 72-74-70 for an even par total of 216.
Whitley was the most consistent player in the event, but saved his best round for last. Whitley started off hot with a birdie at the par-4 first hole. He would add two more during the round before hiccups at the nine and twelve. A late birdie at the par-5 seventeenth completed the 34-36-70 finish to claim the title.
