Illinois Senior Amateur: Ted Pecora takes lead
LONG GROVE, Ill. (Sept. 16, 2014) — After another even-par 72 on Tuesday, Glencoe's Ted Pecora is in sole possession of first place at the 28th Illinois State Senior Amateur Championship heading in to Wednesday's final round. Pecora will enter the final 18 at the Royal Country Club of Long Grove with a three-shot lead over a group of four deadlocked at 3-over par for the tournament.
Just like his first round, Pecora's second round scorecard featured four birdies and four bogeys. A birdie on the par-4 tenth put him in the red at 1-under par, before bogeys on 14 and 16, sandwiched around a birdie on 15, brought him back to even.
Highlighting the foursome tied for second are two-time champion Tom Miler of Kewanee, who posted one of only two red numbers on the day with a 1-under par 71, and Rock Island's Fred Lukasik, who earned low Super Senior honors. Miler and Lukasik are joined by Paul Hindsley and Ed Whitaker, three shots back of Pecora.
The only other round under par belonged to Mark Jason of Glenview, who rebounded from an opening-round 84 with a second-round 71 to make the cut.
A total of 38 players survived the cut, which came at 159. Final-round play will begin Wednesday at 8 a.m.
