Griffin wins Mississippi Senior Amateur by one
HATTIESBURG, Miss. (August 24, 2014) — The three players who finished the Mississippi Senior Amateur under par ran away with the top three spots at Timberton Country Club.
David Griffin won the event by a stroke over Kyle Smith and Ricky Sims. Griffin played consistent golf, firing round of 70-71-72 to finish three-under total. Smith jumped back into contention with a final-round 69, which tied for low round of the tournament with Sims.
Sims, who entered the final round with a three-shot lead, struggled on Sunday to a 76, relinquishing the lead to Griffin.
After Smith and Sims in second place at 214, the next closest competitor, Greg Brooking, finished at four-over par 220.

Mississippi Senior Amateur
Tournament is scheduled for 54 holes of stroke play;
players will be flighted after 36 holes of play within
their age division. Field size is limited to the first
104
players.
The Championship is open to male amateurs who
are
bona fide residents of the state of Mississippi for at
least 60 days prior to the first round of the
tournament.
Divisions:
- Seniors must have reached their 50th birthday
prior to the first day of the championship.
- Super Seniors must have reached their 60th
birthday prior to the first day of the championship.
- Grand Masters must have reached their 70th
birthday prior to the first day of the championship.
