Top-seeded McMahon through to quarterfinals at Arizona Amateur

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (August 14, 2014) — University of Arizona golfer Alex McMahon has cruised through three matches at the Arizona Amateur after claiming medalist honors on Tuesday. His closest match came in the round of 16 when he ousted Tony Bagneschi 3-and-2.
McMahon, who was the top-seed by one shot in stroke play qualifying, will face rival Arizona State golfer Blake Cannon in Friday morning's quarterfinal match.
Adam Walicki, a former pro from Scottsdale who has since regained his amateur status, was the No. 1 seed at the 2011 event and is also through into the quarterfinals. He'll match up Friday morning with former University of Nebraska golfer Matt Record.
Trey Martin will battle Austin Quick while Charles David will face Michael Martin on the bottom half of the bracket.
Golfers will play two matches Friday before a 36-hole final slated for Saturday.

The event will play host to a maximum field size of 156
players for qualifying rounds, with the field cut to the
top 64 players for the match play championship, all
competing in one division. The event will consist of a
36-hole qualifier, followed by a 64-player match play
