Patrick Soli leads Santa Cruz City
SANTA CRUZ. Calif. (August 9, 2014) -- Patrick Soli holds the first round lead at the Santa Cruz City Amateur.
Soli shot a first round 68 at Delaveaga Golf Course on Saturday.
He made a couple of solid par saves early on in the round before running off a stretch of four birdies in a row from the eighth to the 11th hole.
"I really controlled the ball nicely," Soli said. "I hit it in the right parts of the greens."
The round could have been lower, save a lost ball in a tree on the 17th that led to a double.
He leads Neil Ostermann, who holds solo second after a 69. Andrew Roberts is in third place with 70.
Soli is playing well, and looks good to defend his 2013 title. He knows what he needs to do to win.
"Be smart off the tee, keep the ball in the fairway," Soli explained. "I hit 14 greens today, if I do it again, I'll have a really good chance."
