Denver Haddix wins Kentucky Match Play title
From the Kentucky Golf Association
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (July 31, 2014) - Denver Haddix, Jr. of Lexington has been playing some great golf! He was: Runner Up at the Clark’s Pump-N-Shop Marathon Kentucky Amateur, medalist the U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship Qualifier and even medalist for this event during Monday’s round – just to name a few.
That fantastic play certainly didn’t cease in the Match Play portion of the Kentucky Match Play Championship Finals at Oxmoor Country Club on July 31. Haddix defeated Fred Allen Meyer, of Nicholasville, 5&3 in the final match.
This certainly was not due to poor play from Meyer, who will begin his collegiate golf career at the University of Kentucky next month. Haddix birdied holes 1 and 3 for the early advantage, while Meyer birdied hole number 4 to pull himself back into contention.
From there Haddix won five holes to Meyer’s one for the win. Interestingly enough, Haddix carded 29 birdies during his match play rounds at Oxmoor – not bad for someone who had never played the golf course prior to this championship!
Congratulations to Denver and to Fred Allen Meyer for their outstanding play! Over in the Consolation Match, it was an all Oxmoor Final as members Aaron Yarmuth and Joseph Inman battled it out for the top spot. The pair matched 4′s on the opening three holes before Inman found his groove and finished with a 5&4 victory.
