Brandon McIver wins Montana State Amateur
WHITEFISH, Montana (July 26, 2014) -- Brandon McIver of Billings (pictured at the US Open in June) may have felt like a small fish in a big pond when he qualified to play in the US Open at Pinehurst. (He played with heart and got some nice TV coverage despite missing the cut, by the way.)
But back in his home state of Montana, the rising sophomore at Oregon, who plays for coach Casey Martin, rolled to his second-straight Montana State Amateur victory Saturday winning by 8 strokes over Tom Swanson of Missoula (home of friend of AmateurGolf.com Sun Mountain Sports).
Swanson, who plays for University of Michigan, posted steady rounds of 73-68-71. But trailing McIver by 4 heading into the final round he would have needed some help, and McIver offered none, posting a 67 on top of his opening rounds of 69-68 at Whitefish Lake's picturesque layout.
