Texas Mid-Am: It's Peck vs. Bonneau for the title

BRYAN, Texas (July 26, 2014) -- Thirteenth-seeded Mike Peck from Irving (pictured top left) knocked off the ninth seed, South Mid-Amateur Champion Tony Soerries, 3 and 1 today to advance to the finals at the State Mid Amateur Match Play Championship.
Houston’s Jess Bonneau, the 2011 Mid-Amateur Match Play Champion, won the other semifinal match Saturday afternoon. He beat Randy Lance, the 11th seed from The Woodlands, 3 and 2. Peck and Bonneau square off for the championship Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
Peck birdied the ninth hole to go 1 up. He never trailed Soerries again. Bonneau lost the first three holes to Lance, but battled back to get all square after the 11th hole. Bonneau won the 12th and 13th to go 2 up and closed Lance out on the 16th hole.
During Saturday morning's quarterfinals, two matches went the full 18 holes. Sorries defeated Kris Devlin, and Lance knocked out Michael Pruitt. Also in morning play, Bonneau, upset the second-seeded Nathaniel James, 2 up. Peck took down Aaron Hickman, 3 and 2, in the quarterfinals.

ABOUT THE
Texas Mid-Am Match Play
Eligibility: Entries are open to male amateur golfers
with a GHIN handicap index of 5.4 or less, and who
are 25 years of age or older as of the first round of
the Championship.
Format/Field Size: Scheduled for 18 holes of stroke
play qualifying on Thursday. The low 32 players
advance to match play beginning on Friday. Round of
32 and 16 played on Friday, Quarter and Semifinal
matches played on Saturday, and Final match on
Sunday morning. The field is limited to 84 players.
