From the Met Golf Association
ST. ALBANS, Mo. (July 10, 2014) -- Barrett Martens, head golf professional at Glen Echo Country Club fired a 4-under 66 to lead the opening round of the 9th Metropolitan Open Championship. Martens commented on his round, “Pretty solid round today, did not make too many mistakes. Golf course was phenomenal, greens are fantastic and I got some putts to drop today.”
2013 low amateur Alex Cusumano sits tied with Chris Brant at 3-under 67 in second place. Cusumano loves this event following his success last year. “This is my fourth year playing in this event, course is fantastic. Ball striking wise, it was probably one of my best ball striking days in quite awhile.”
Three players are two shots back of the lead at 68, Zechariah Potter, Chad Saladin and Barrett Kelpin.
Round 2 will commence at 7:30a from holes 1 and 10 Friday morning. A cut to the low 40 scores and ties will be made following Round 2.
