Denny McCarthy rolls to 2nd straight Maryland State Amateur title

Lutherville Timonium, Md. (June 8, 2014) -- University of Virginia star Denny McCarthy won in style Sunday in the championship match at the Maryland State Amateur.
McCarthy needed just 28 holes to knock off Chris Baloga, 8 and 7, at Baltimore Country Club.
Playing the East Course, McCarthy eight of the last 10 holes to finish the morning round 6-up. He finally put Baloga out of contention for a comeback on the 11th hole of the afternoon round.
It's the second straight Maryland State victory for McCarthy.

This tournament is open to male amateurs
who
are residents of Maryland or members of
member clubs of the MSGA with an
up-to-date USGA index at that club. 18 hole
qualifying
rounds will
be held for those who do not meet exemption
criteria. 18 holes of stroke play will determine the
match play field of 32, with the defending
champion automatically qualifying unless
he
elects to compete for the Medalist prize.
