Defending champ McCarthy reaches Maryland State Am final

Lutherville Timonium, MD (June 7, 2014) -- Defending champion and top seed Denny McCarthy is on to the championship match at the 2014 Maryland State Amateur Championship.
McCarthy will take on No. 27 Chris Baloga in Sunday;s 36-hole finale.
A rising star from the University of Virginia, McCarthy won twice on Satruday, knocking off No. 9 Mike Blasey and No. 5 Ben Warnquist to reach the finale for the second straight year.
Baloga, meanwhile, defeated No. 26 Matthew Bassler in the semifinals after defeating Joseph Rice IV in the morning quarterfinals.

This tournament is open to male amateurs
who
are residents of Maryland or members of
member clubs of the MSGA with an
up-to-date USGA index at that club. 18 hole
qualifying
rounds will
be held for those who do not meet exemption
criteria. 18 holes of stroke play will determine the
match play field of 32, with the defending
champion automatically qualifying unless
he
elects to compete for the Medalist prize.
