Pacific Northwest Sr: Jim Knoll storms back to top Tom Brandes
POWELL BUTTE, Ore. (June 5, 2014) -- Jim Knoll finished where he started at the 2014 Pacific Northwest Senior Championship -- on top.
The first-round leader but trailing entering Round 2, Knoll fired a closing 6-under 66 to storm back and win by two shots over two-time defending champion Tom Brandes at Brasada Ranch.
Knoll opened play with a 69 on Tuesday but fell to third place following a 73 in Round 2. His red-hot finish helped him top Brandes, who held the overnight lead, and Michael Kloenne.
Kloenne shot 72 in the final round to finish solo third by three shots.
In his stellar final round, Knoll recorded seven birdies before a bogey on the par-3 17th.
Carey Watson (72-71-74) and Jim Stone (76-74-70) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
In the Super Senior Division, Chris Maletis of Portland, Ore. was a three-shot winner over Gay Davis, also of Portland.
Noel Pumfrey was third, finishing 13 shots behind Maletis' dominant card.
