Conn. Sr. Match Play: Szewczul completes run

WALLINGFORD, Conn. (May 29, 2014) -- Dave Szewczul went wire-to-wire to win the 2014 Connecticut State Senior Match Play Championship, defeating Jon Groveman Thursday in the championship match at The Farms Country Club.
Szewczul won 2-up over Groveman in the finale but his play throughout the week was to marvel at.
Always a contender in CSGA events, Szewczul led the way during stroke-play qualifying and never looked back throughout match play.
The Tunxis Plantation Country Club member beat Gary Mattesen 3 and 2 in the first tounrd, knocked off Craig Dubois 2-up in the quarterfinals and William Lee in Thursday morning's semifinal.
In Thursday afternoon's final, Szewczul was 1-up after 13 holes before winning No. 18 and closing out the match.

Connecticut Senior Match Play
The tournament, which is the first of two majors for
senior golfers on the CSGA schedule, challenges
competitors with a round of stroke play to determine
the low sixteen match play qualifiers followed by two
rounds of match play each day that culminate in an
eighteen-hole final match.
