Senior Cotton States: Leaderboard log jammed
Gary Kirwan
MONROE, La. (May 16, 2014) -- Rain, rain go away. And stay away so the Senior Cotton States Invitational can go on.
After rain washed away the first day of action, play began Thursday at Bayou DeSiard Country Club and five players share the lead.
Joel Childress, Bob Cooper, Robert Shelton, Shelby Houston and John Kennedy all shot 76 and share the first-round lead. The group is one shot over another four players tied for sixth.
Randy King, Ken Highlander, Herb Fisher and Ben Thiebeaux are all tied at 77 after Round 1 on a jumbled leaderboard. All told, there are 15 players within three shots of the lead antering the second full day of play.
In the Super Senior Division, Jim Lipe leads after a first-round 71. He is three shots better than Gary Kirwan, who recently won the Tower Invitational Super Senior.
Gerald Siemons and Henry Cole are tied for third after shooting 75.
