CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (May 15, 2014) -- Surging in a wet final round, John Jackopsic won the 2014 John P. Burke Memorial.
A junior at Boston College, Jackopsic rallied to tie two-time defending champion at the top of the leaderboard, forcing a playoff.
With the event being held at two different courses, Jackopsic had to leave The Misquamicut Club and head to Shelter Harbor where he birdied the first hole and beat Leopold, on the second hole.
Leopold, who made national headlines in 2011 with upset victories at the U.S. Amateur, held the lead after Wednesday's first round. He managed to keep pace with Jackopsic despite the collegiate golfer's torrid pace on Thursday.
Jackopsic shot 31 coming in to rally and force the playoff.
Mike Douillete finished third.
