2-time defending champ Leopold on top at RI Burke Memorial
Bobby Leopold
WESTERLY, R.I. (May 14, 2014) -- Two-time defending champion Bobby Leopold is in familiar footing at the 2014 John P. Burke Memorial Championship.
Leopold, one of New England's top amateurs, shot an even-par 69 at The Misquamicut Club and is tied alongisde McKinley Slade at the top of the leaderboard.
Leopold, who made headlines with a run of upsets as the No. 64 seed at the 2011 U.S. Amateur at Erin Hills, was medalist at the Point Judith U.S. Open local qualifier on Tuesday and continued his hot play.
Slade, who's coming off a solid freshman year at Bryant University, birdied two of his final three holes to notch a tie at the top with the veteran mid-amateur Leopold.
Ryan Pelletier is alone in third with a 70 while Jamie Lukowicz and John McCarthy sit tied for fourth place after shooting 71.
