Harvey, McGowan surge at Carolinas Open
Scott Harvey
BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. (May 7, 2014) -- The Carolinas are an important region for the game of golf. Home to Pinehurst, Southern Pines, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, the game at all its levels are well-represented.
That much is evident at the 90th playing of the Carolinas Open at Bryan Park Golf Course.
Amateurs Scott Harvey and Michael McGowan made major moves in Wednesday's second round to catapult towards the top of the leaderboard.
With second-round action still being completed, Harvey sits alone in second thanks to a second-round 3-under 68. He shot 1-under 70 on Tuesday and trails leader Steve Larick by two shots.
Harvey, of course, helped the U.S. dominate Great Britain & Ireland at the inaugural Concession Cup this past weekend in Bradenton, Fla.
McGowan, a recent UNC graduate, shot a 69 to move into a tie for fourth place. He opened with an even par 71.
