Timuquana Cup: Waddell surges in final round
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 5, 2014) -- Charles Waddell fired a final-round 5-under 67 to catapult to the top of the leaderboard, winning the 2014 Timuquana Cup at Timuquana Country Club.
Waddell, who opened with rounds of 72-75, blew past the field in Sunday's final round. He outlasted Nick Gilliam, Josh Hammond and Cameron Hooper, who all shot 70 on Sunday.
Gilliam, the former NCAA champion, took solo second place while Hammond and Hooper tied for third alongside first and second-round leader Danny Nelson, who shot a second straight 75 to fall from the top of the leaderboard.
The Timuquana Cup is an invitational tournament bringing together 40 of the top mid-amateurs and the top 20 senior amateurs in the country.

The theme of the event will be a
"Gathering of
Friends" with a small, select field
dedicated to
those individuals whose passion is
amateur
golf. The Timuquana Cup will be a
celebration
of amateur golf.
The tournament chairman is Steve Melnyk,
and
USGA Rules Official Tom Dudley will be in
charge of course set up and the rules of
competition. One of the highlights of this
year's event will be a cocktail cruise on the
St.
Johns River departing from the Timuquana
Country Club dock and housing will be
available
for many competitors in members' homes.
