BRYAN, Texas (May 1, 2014) -- Mike Peck shot his second straight 1-under 70 and extended his lead at the 2014 Tower Invitational at Miramont Country Club.
Following a hard-earned 70 in Wednesday's windy -- with gusts up to 40 MPH -- Peck said he didn't hit the ball as well in Round 2. But in the end, he's the only player in the field to break par in both rounds and will enter Friday's finale with a five-shot lead over Ron Kirby and the field.
"Mike played good again today," said Tournament Director Brad Lardon. "We had much more favorable conditions than on Wednesday."
Kirby also shot 1-under 70. Paired with his first-round 75, he is one shot better than two players in third place.
Thomas Johnson (74-72) and Bob Kearney (77-69) are tied for third place. Kearney's 2-under 69 was the round of the day.
In the Super Senior Division, Walt Martin is tied alongside Gary Kirwan atop the leaderboard.
Martin shot a second straight 73 while Kirwan followed his opening-round 74 with a 1-over 72 on Thursday.
Howard Knowles shot the division's low round of the day, firing a 1-under 70 to catapult into third place.
"Tomorrow's forecast is much more favorable," Lardon said. "We should have some good conditions for a shootout."
