NCGA Senior: Knoll jumps to 3-shot lead
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (April 28, 2014) -- Jim Knoll fired the only round under par Monday at Spyglass Hill Golf Course and will take a three-shot lead into the second and final round in the 2014 Northern California Golf Association Senior Championship.
Knoll, who's playing out of Rooster Run Golf Club, shot 1-under 71 and will enter Round 2 three up on Doug Williams.
Steve Wilson of Roddy Ranch shot 3-over 75 and is alone in third place.
The NCGA Senior is among the best events of the year in the competitive Northern California senior circuit. Last year, Gary Vanier bested Casey Boyns in a thrilling finale that ended in a sudden-death playoff.
Boyns sits tied for fifth place after a 5-over 77 while Vanier is among nine players in a logjam at 6-over 78 and tied for seventh place.
All tolda, there are 13 players within four shots of the runner-up position but they're all chasing Knoll after his solid start at Spyglass Hill.
