National Inv. at Whisper Rock: Defending champs take lead
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (April 23, 2014) -- Defending champions Barry Dyche and Jason Pool rose from a group of six co-leaders and hold a one-shot lead entering the final round of the 2014 National Invitational at Whisper Rock.
The leaders, who shot 3-under 69 for a second straight day, have now led the event the last five rounds, dating all the way back to the first round of last year's event.
Ben Hayes and partner Taylor Wood are one shot behind Dyche and Pool after a second-round 69.
The round of the day belonged to Mark and Steve Sear, who shot 5-under 67. They're now tied for third alongside Tony Bagneschi and Bryan Hoops and Joe Ryon and Shawn McCaskey.
In the Senior Division, Dave Clement and Jay Pumphrey shot a second-round 66 and are two shots ahead of John Bracken and Paul Brown.
Overnight leaders Todd Barsotti and Jeff Wilson shot 71 and slid back to third place alongside Brian Tennyson and Don Walsworth.
In both divisions, there was a cut at 2-over 146.
The National Invitational is a two-man best-ball invitational event with Mid- m and Senior Divisions and layed at both lower and upper courses at the very highly acclaimed Whisper Rock Golf Club, which boasts many Tour players among its membership, including both Phil Mickelson and his caddie Jim "Bones" Mackay.
