Fla. Sr. Azalea: Tumlin tops LaCrosse in playoff
Ronnie Tumlin
PALATKA, Fla. (March 9, 2014) -- Ronnie Tumlin prevailed over Doug LaCrosse in a one-hole, sudden-death playoff to win the 2014 Florida Senior Azalea at Palatka Golf Club.
Throughout the event, Tumlin, of St. Augustine, and LaCrosse, who calls Tampa home, were never more than one shot apart on the leaderboard. And in the final round, Tumlin birdied No. 17 with a 15-foot putt and LaCrosse buried one on No. 18 to force the playoff.
On the extra hole, the 131-yard par-3 sixth, LaCrosse sailed the green with a 9-iron and missed a putt for par. Tumlin hit it to 15 feet off the tee and two-putted for the victory.
David Anthony, the 2013 champion, shot 72-70-69 to place third, finishing three shots back of the top finishers. Doug Snoap (70-75-70) and Blake Marshall (74-70-72) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Ted Smith of Illinois won the Super Senior flight, shooting rounds of 71-72-72 to prevail.
Bob Howe (73-71-73) and Berger Warner (74-71-72) were tied for second place.
