Arizona Intercollegiate: Hagy, Stalter medal as Cal wins
TUCSON, Ariz. (Jan. 28, 2014) -- Cal stars Brandon Hagy and Joel Stalter finished as co-medalists as the Bears rallied to win the 2014 Arizona Intercollegiate at Sewailo Golf Club.
The Bears trailed rival USC by two shots entering the final round of play but received a final-round best 67 from Stalter to finish 14 shots better than host Arizona. It's the fourth victory in six events this year for the Bears, who have also amazingly won 22 of their last 34 stroke-play events.
Hagy shot a first-round 69 and trailed leader Anthony Paolucci of USC by four shots. He shot 68 in Round 2 before closing with a 74 to tied with Stalter. Stalter, meanwhile, went 71-73-67 to medal for the third time in his career.
For Hagy, it was the eighth straight Top 10 finish.
BYU's Justin Kelly and Arizona's Kolton Lapa finished tied for third, one shot behind Stalter and Hagy. Pat Beyhan of New Mexico State, New Mexico's Sam Saunders and Paolucci finished in a tie for fifth place.
New Mexico finished in third place in the team competition, one shot better than USC. New Mexico State and BYU finished tied for fifth.
