West Point, MS - Tupelo CC pulls out a win at the season ending John Bryan Cup at Old Waverly Golf Club. Tupelo competitors were unaffected by the difficult conditions that the remainder of the field witnessed and posted a 593 total, 17 over par.
Congratulations to all the members of the team, Vince Hodges, Michael Hodges, David Griffin, Chris Mills and Jud Vance, for their outstanding play over the weekend. Defending champion, Old Waverly Golf Club, was 8 strokes behind at 601 total. Greenwood Country Club posted low rounds in the final 18 holes, however were unable to catch the leaders, posting a 607 as team total.
Individual Champions, Damon Palmer, of the Mid Am Division and David Griffin, of the senior division, were both two under par, 142. Damon Palmer represented Natchez Trace Golf Club who placed fourth overall in the team championship. David Griffin, represented team champions, Tupelo Country Club. Host facility Golf Profesional, Greg Flannagan was pleased to see such a great turn-out and looks forward to future championships.
Many thanks to all participating teams for making the event a success in 2013. The Mississippi Golf Association thanks all Old Waverly staff for their continued hospitality over the years and their commitment to welcoming teams from across the state to their club. ABOUT THE
John Bryan Cup
This format will consist of players from MGA Member
Clubs in good standing. All team members (Male or
Female) must be regular members of the course or
club they are representing. The Club Team
Championship is open to amateurs who are residents
of the State of Mississippi for at least 60 days prior
to round 1 of the event. All participants in Mississippi
Golf Association State Championships are required to
have an active GHIN Number through a Licensed
Mississippi Member Club. Each team will use the
three lowest scores of the four players for their team
total in each round. Players will also compete in an
individual stroke play that will split into divisions.
The Team Championship will be divided into divisions
of Men’s & Women’s for individual competition. The
individual competition will be divided into Men’s
Regular, Senior Men’s (50+), Women’s Regular, &
Senior Women’s (50+). Teams may consist of all
male, all female, or male and female team members.
