Isleworth Collegiate: Alabama leads early
WINDERMERE, Fla. (Oct. 20, 2013) -- The Crimson Tide were led by senior Trey Mullinax, who matched his career low with a 6-under 66, and is tied for the individual lead. Central Florida is in second place at 6-under 282 with third-ranked Cali-fornia and No. 7 Illinois in third at 4-under 284. UNLV rounds out the top five at 2-under 286.
Mullinax, from Birmingham, Ala., turned in a near flawless scorecard with six birdies and no bogeys. He shot 32 on the back nine by recording back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes. Mullinax has now lowered his scoring average to 69.0 through seven rounds this year.
Fellow senior Bobby Wyatt also finds himself in the top 10 after Sunday's round. The Mobile native shot 3-under 69 and is tied for seventh headed into Monday's second round. Freshman Robby Shelton carded a 1-under 71 and is tied for 16th.
Senior Cory Whitsett was the Tide's fourth score at 2-over 72 and is tied for 39th. Tom Lovelady's 79 was dropped from UA's team score on Sunday. California's Joel Stalter shares the individual lead with Mullinax after 18 holes.
Alabama will tee off at 8:40 a.m. (CDT) on Monday for the second round of the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational and will be paired with UCF and California.
