Murray leads St. Augustine Amateur field
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Oct. 15, 2013) — The
10th annual St. Augustine Amateur will be
held
Oct.
18-20 at St. John’s Golf Club in Elkton, Fla.
Defending champion Jack Maguire of Florida
State will not be in the field, meaning the
event will
crown its 10th champion.
A field full of some of the game’s top rising
stars and experienced mid-amateurs take aim
at the
coveted title, which awards
Golfweek/amateurgolf.com U.S. Player
Rankings
points.
Led by 2013 U.S. Open participant Grayson
Murray, the field for the 2013 St. Augustine
Amateur is
sure to add to the growing list of top-flight
amateurs and now-professionals the event
calls past
champions, including Peter Uihlein, the former
world’s top-ranked amateur.
Murray, who’ll attend Arizona State University
starting in the spring semester, was one of
just 10
amateurs to qualify for the U.S. Open at
Merion and will no doubt be a contender at St.
John’s
Golf Club. He’ll surely be challenged by a host
of established mid-amateurs, including
Bermuda’s
Jarryd Dillas, a four-time winner of the
Bermuda Amateur Match Play Championship
and up-and-
coming collegians and juniors, including
Remec
Carlson of the IMG Academy and University of
Houston golfer Greg Schmaus.
The St. Augustine Amateur is a national event
established in 2004 for better amateur and
collegiate players. The winner receives the
John C. Jennison III Trophy in honor of the
tournament
founder and accomplished amateur player. All
net proceeds of the event benefit The First
Tee of
North Florida. The current tournament co-
Chairmen are Wes Tucker and John Jennison
IV.
