Cowan leads California Women's Amateur

CARMEL, CA (Aug. 26, 2013) — The 47th California Women's Amateur Championship is under way at Quail Lodge Resort & Golf Club. After round one of qualifying, four-time champion Lynne Cowan from Rocklin leads the field with an even par 71. One back at 72 is Amanjoty Sangha, a sophomore at San Mateo High. Sadie Strain, a sophomore at Santa Clara University, sits tied with Harvard Junior Tiffany Lim at 73. Cameron Park tennis pro Kelly Wilson is in fifth at 74.
Local competitors include Marianne Towersey at 79, Stephanie Sendell at 82, and Pam Fadel at 82.
The low 32 after 36 holes will advance to match play on Wednesday.

The California Women’s Amateur Championship was
founded in 1967 and played at Pebble Beach Golf
Links until 1987 when the Championship was invited
to Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, where it was
played through 2019.
36-hole stroke play qualifying
round, 18 holes each day, to determine 32
players
for match play. Prizes will be awarded
to the Champion, Runner-up, Semifinalists,
Quarterfinalists
and the 36-hole Low Gross Medalist
from qualifying rounds.
