Seven tied at Mississippi Senior Amateur
TUNICA, Miss. (Aug. 23, 2013) - A beautiful sunrise welcomed 85 Senior Amateur Competitors this morning to Tunica National for the 54 hole competition. Following the first round, the Senior Division leaderboard is all tied up with seven at one over par, 73. Robert Willis, Stewart Horsley, Greg Brooking, David Griffin, Dean Brown, Robert Pannell and Ken Peacock all sit in close contention with a great deal of golf remaining.
Lowest rounds of the day came from the Super Senior Division with Fred Brister of Jackson and Ken Hogue of Fulton both posting three under par, 69. Brister and Hogue pulled away from the field early with their closest competition in George Hinman who finished three strokes back. Cecil Watkins of Picayune is once again defending his title and has come prepared. Watkins posted 78 in the opening round with one birdie on the front nine. Larry Wagster and John Garner are in close range, both at 82, and likely to pick up some strokes in the second round.
Tunica National course is in pristine condition and greens are rolling true. Looking forward to more competitive rounds this weekend. Second round will commence at 7:30am and has been repaired based on score.
