Semifinals set at Alabama Match Play
Sam Love
AUBURN, Ala. (Aug. 9, 2013) -- The 13th State Match Play Championship is down to the final four players after the round of 16 and the quarterfinals were completed Friday at Moore’s Mill Club in Auburn.
No. 1 seed is Trussville’s Sam Love, who plays for UAB, and he recently lost in a playoff in the prestigious Southern Amateur. For the second day running he won both his matches, as did No. 2 seed Montgomery’s Thomas Sutton (pictured with this story), who is a UAB teammate of Love’s. So, they remain on course to potentially meet in Saturday afternoon’s final.
However, former State Amateur champion Robbie Cotten of Brewton and John-Michael O’Toole of Pinson will certainly have plenty to say regards that scenario as Cotten faces Sutton and O’Toole faces Love in Saturday morning’s semifinals.
