Wolcott rolls at Chattanooga Choo Choo
Ben Wolcott
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (July 24, 2013) -- Ben Wolcott took the Chattanooga Choo Choo lead on Tuesday and never looked back, using a 1-under 70 in Wednesday's final round to post a five-shot victory at the inaugural event held at Council Fire Golf Club.
Wolcott, an incoming freshman at Ole Miss, shot rounds of 67-70-70--207 to finish five better than runners-up Cincinnati's Emerson Newsome and Dustin Smith, a coach at Vanderbilt. Newsome shot 2-under 69 in the final round to propel into second place while Smith closed with a 70.
First-round leader Tim Jackson finished with rounds of 66-75-77--218 to finish tied for ninth place.
The inaugural field is mostly Tennessee and Georgia players, but tournament director Chris Schmidt expects that to change in the coming years as the word about the tournament gets out.
