Carolinas Super Sr.: Pike prevails
BLUFFTON, SC – Final round results of the 5th Carolinas Super Senior Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf Association hosted by Hilton Head National Golf Club in Bluffton, SC on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 (5980 yards, par 36-35—71, 69.7/128).
Arlis Pike of Kernersville, NC carded a final round 69 for a four-under 138 total to win the Carolinas Super Senior Championship by three shots over Stan Kinney of Summerfield, NC. Pike wins his third overall CGA title and second in 2013. He won the 1992 North Carolina Amateur Championship and the Carolinas Senior Four-Ball Championship this past April at Dataw Island Club with Michael Roland.
Pike went out with two-over par 38 on his front nine but made 4 straight birdies on holes 10 thru 13 to take the lead. Five pars on the closing holes sealed the win for the 65-year-old.
Defending champion John Walters of Charlotte, NC posted a final round 73 to finish at 144 in a tie for sixth place.
Carolinas Super Senior Championship is open to any male amateur golfer who has reached his 65th birthday, is a legal resident of North Carolina or South Carolina, is a member in good standing of a club which is a member of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) and has a current USGA Handicap Index® at a CGA member club that does not exceed 15.4.
