OAKLAND, Calif. (July 11, 2013) -- In 2012, Latanna Stone of Florida took medalist honors at her Florida US Women's Amateur qualifier, at the tender age of 10. Stone, who has recorded well over 100 victories, didn't come close to making match play in the tournament proper, finishing T129 after rounds of 78-82=160.
Today at Oakland's historic Sequoyah Country Club, another 10-year-old, Lucy Li of Redwood Shores, Calif., matched Stone's 2012 feat.
Li fired 75 to qualify for her second USGA tournament this year. (And no, the other one wasn't the Junior, it was the Public Links where she made match play.)
Sequoyah member Bart Goldie caddied for Li on Thursday, and may get the nod to do the same in Charleston, South Carolina when the US Women's Amateur is played August 5-11.
Congratulations to Lucy and all qualifiers.
