Pelletier wins NM/West Texas Amateur
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (June 30, 2013) — In the scorching heat of the southwest, Jere Pelletier braved the hot sun on Sunday and shot a final-round low 68 to win the New Mexico/West Texas Amateur Championship by two strokes.
The University of Texas - El Paso junior was one of just two players to shoot all three tournament rounds in the 60s, as he shot 66-68 in the opening two rounds.
In second place was Sam Saunders of the University of New Mexico, who is not to be confused with Arnold Palmer's grandson.
This Saunders, a junior at New Mexico, shot 67-69-68 to finish two shots back of Pelletier.
