Tennant Cup: McDonald hangs on

Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland (June 23, 2013) -- Jack McDonald stroked home from 30 feet on the final green tonight to win his first 72-hole stroke play event, the Tennant Cup on the SGU Men’s Order of Merit.
The 20-year-old from Kilmarnock Barassie closed with a final round 72 at Glasgow Golf Club to claim success by a shot from the fast-finishing Scott Crichton (Aberdour).
Recent strong finishes at the Carrick Neill Scottish Amateur Stroke Play and the St Andrews Links Trophy had suggested the University of Stirling student was nearing a victory.
And so it proved over the Killermont course today, as McDonald – the 2012 Scottish Amateur Golfer of the Year - edged home with a 284 total despite a brilliant closing 65 from Crichton to push him all the way.
Lundin’s James White produced two final day scores of 70 to finish on his own in third spot, while Neil Henderson of The Renaissance took fourth, helped by a 66 in round three.
Overnight leader Matt Clark (Kilmacolm) shared fifth on 288, along with Dollar’s Scott Borrowman, Gordon Stevenson (Whitecraigs) and Chris Robb of Meldrum House.
