Not just for St. Patrick's Day
The Callaway MD3 Milled Lucky Clover Shamrock Wedge
No question about it, St. Patrick's Day is the most
fun holiday of the year. It's the day we all feel a
little Irish, even guys named Wlodkowski.
Callaway decided to notch things up a level from
green beer and green foam hats with something that
will look cool in your bag every day, and help you
lower your scores in the area that counts the most.
That's right, we're talking about the short game -
and wedges.
So, starting March 17 at retail you'll have a
chance to order limited-edition MD3 Milled Lucky
Clover wedges, replete with St. Patrick's Day
touches that will make you smile every time you pull
one out of the bag. I'll get into some of the technical
details below, but let's start with a look at the
"luck of the Irish" touches that legendary
club designer Roger Cleveland and the folks at
Callaway were smart enough to think of first:
FINISH AND STAMPING
Before you think this is just another marketing
ploy around a holiday, you should know that
Cleveland received extensive input from Tour
players. They love a blacked-out wedge for low
glare. The Lucky Clover edition of the MD3 is blacked
out with green highlights and a lucky clover. If you
chip in the first week you put it in play, you might be
on to something for the entire season.

SHAFT, GREEN GRIP ACCENTS
As cool as the head looks, this shaft, with it's
low glare finish and green label is a perfect
compliment. The matte black grip with green accents
caps things off.
MD3 S-GRIND FEATURES
Callaway added the Lucky Clover designs to it's
most popular grind, because it works well in all
conditions. Here are a few of the details:
- Progressive Groove
Optimization: This is a unique set of three
spin-optimized groove configurations, precision
milled into the face of the MD3 wedges to optimizes
spin as you go up in loft. It creates a smoother spin
transition from your irons to wedges. The 30V
grooves in the Pitching and Gap Wedges are built for
shots that require a steep angle into the ball. The
20V grooves in the sand wedges are designed for
full shots and bunker shots, and we put in wider 5V
grooves in the lob wedges for better control for shots
out of the rough and around the green.
- Advanced Shaping:
Legendary Callaway wedge designer Roger Cleveland
took Tour input and blended that with advanced CAD
design. The result is a balanced wedge with a high
toe profile and a semi-straight leading edge. The
weight ports in the back of the wedge gave us the
freedom to reposition the weight for better shot-
making, especially out of deep rough.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
The MD3 Lucky Clover wedges are available at
retail on March 17 (go figure) at a price of $139.99.
They come in a wide range of lofts: 50, 52, 54,
56, 58, 60. Left handers, unfortunately, are not so
lucky as they are available in right hand only. But
hey, lefties, maybe if you get into Callaway's Carlsbad Fitting
Center (I recommend it highly for left or right
handers!) you can sweet talk the adjacent Tour
department guys to stamp one for you.
