The Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) and Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) acquired The Home Course from the Weyerhaeuser Company on May 31, 2007, and opened it to the public on June 29. With the championship tees currently set at 7,437 yards, it will prove to be a stern test for the world’s top amateur golfers as it will be the site for one of the stroke play rounds at the 2010 U.S. Amateur. The other site is Chambers Bay, which will also be the match play course
The Home Course is a walkable layout with panoramic views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and Mount Rainier, present throughout the golf course. It was designed by golf course architect Mike Asmundson of Scottsdale, Arizona. Asmundson, a graduate of the University of Washington, has constructed numerous courses in the desert southwest and in South America. He also owns Discovery Bay Golf Course in Port Townsend, Wash.
