Course Review: Poppy Ridge
- NCGA Photo
It doesn't get much better than Poppy
Ridge.
The Northern California Golf
Association-owned facility has three nines,
which are combined in different variations to
provide a variety of golf experiences. While the
nines are similar in style there are certain
differences and unique characteristics to each
- for example generous sized greens. There is
hardly a tree on the gently rolling property, but
the well defined fairways still require straight
driving and reward that skill with much easier
approach shots on the par 4s and chances to
get home in two on the par 5s.
The course is definitely challenging, but
very fair and playable. The Merlot nine can play
very difficult when the wind is blowing.
Fortunately, there are many calm, peaceful
days at this beautiful spot in the Livermore
Valley. If you are an NCGA member, Poppy
Ridge may be the best golf value in the state of
California.
Other important notes about Poppy Ridge -
it has the best and friendliest golf staff in the
area, and the practice facility is second to
none.
