Paez Claims Inland Amateur Championship
INLAND EMPIRE, CALIF. (Sept 5, 2011) -- Despite trailing by three shots with ten holes to play in the final round, Nick Paez prevailed with a back nine score of 33 and an eighteen hole total of 71 to claim the 2011 Inland Empire Amateur Championship. Paez's three round total of 206 (nine under par) was good enough for a three shot victory. The great play by Nick’s fellow competitors Mr. Ki Taek Lee, Mr. Kenny Pigman, and Mr. Kevin Fitzgerald will make this victory that much sweeter, as all three vied for the Championship with nine holes to play before falling short.
The First Flight, represented by 36 players all with indexes between 3.1 and 6.5, saw its most compelling victory in the tournament’s history with a ten shot victory and a 54 hole total of six under par. Matching 68′s on Sunday and Monday propelled our winner to the top in a hurry. Thank you and Congratulations to our First Flight victor Mr. Rafael Morales.
Winning the second flight was Mr. Coit Monell. Coit finished the tournament with a fine score of 77 at the Oak Valley Golf Club, edging out his fellow competitor Mr. Jim Wat by five shots. Mr. Monell created some breathing room for himself with a score of 39 on the front nine and made it all but official early on in the final nine holes.
