NEW LONDON, NC (Aptil 23, 2011) -- Georgia Tech continued their lead after the second round of the ACC Men’s Golf Championship, being played April 22-24 at the Old North State Club (Par 72, 7,102 yards), in New London, N. C.

Georgia Tech shot a 10-under par 278 today to take a nine shot lead over Duke (279) into Sunday’s final round. Georgia Tech’s two day total is 17-under par 559 while Duke is second at 8-under par 568.

Georgia Tech Head Coach Bruce Heppler commented after the second round, “We got off to a slow start and actually we played the last 12 to 13 holes well. It was another good day and the weather was nice. The score was better today for us than yesterday. It was all positive. We are in a better position than when we started the tournament. There are good teams everywhere and we are going to have to play well tomorrow to keep doing what we are doing.”

Individually, Georgia Tech’s Paul Haley (r-Sr., Dallas, Tex.) is in sole possession of first place after the second round with a score of 8-under par 136. Haley shot his second round of 68 and is three shots ahead of Wake Forest’s John Varol (Fr., Waxhaw, N.C.), Georgia Tech teammate Kyle Scott (Sr., Johannesburg, South Africa) and Clemson’s Corbin Mills (So., Anderson, S.C.) who are tied for second at 5-under par 139. Duke’s Julian Suri (So., St. Augustine, Fla.) is in fifth place with a 4-under par 140. At two-under par (142) are Florida State’s Drew Kittleson (Sr., Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Duke’s Brinson Paolini (So., Virginia Beach, Va.), who are tied for sixth place.

Following Georgia Tech and Duke in the team standings is Clemson in third place at four-under 572, Virginia is fourth at one-under 575, Florida State is fifth at even par 576, Wake Forest is sixth at 581, NC State seventh at 582, North Carolina is eighth at 584, Virginia Tech is ninth at 592, Maryland is10th at 604 and Boston College is 11th at 631.

Final round action begins tomorrow at 8:00am with Maryland and Boston College in the first wave. NC State, North Carolina and Virginia Tech are in the second wave and will start at 8:40am. Virginia, Florida State and Wake Forest will be in the third wave beginning at 9:40am and the final wave of Georgia Tech, Duke and Clemson will start at 10:40am.
