Danielle Lemek of Daniphan continued her dominance of the Cornhusker State in winning her second consecutive Nebraska Women’s State Amateur title at the Marty Johnson-designed North Bend Golf Course. To cap things off for the final round, she almost aced the par-3 162-yard 18th hole, but settled for birdie.
Lemek, a senior at Bradley University and two-time Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year, earned another state title that include four straight girls high school championships, four straight junior titles, and now back-to-back Women’s State Am titles. Her 3-under par 207 dominated the rest of the field.
Not bad for someone who turned to Twitter in search of a caddy for the tournament.
"anyone want to caddy for me tomorrow in north bend?" she asked. We didn't see any responses, but apparently she did just fine on her own.
In Wednesday’s victory, the closest competitor was University of Nebraska junior Audrey Judd, nine strokes behind the leader. Judd, from Olathe, had the best round of the final day, carding a 68 to finish at 216. Another Husker and teammate of Judd – Sara Pravecek, finished in third place with an overall score of 222.
“This was a tournament I wanted to win and wanted to just hit fairways and greens and make some putts — pretty standard, but the way to win,” Lemek told the Lincoln Journal Star. “I had such a crummy last three weeks in my college season, I just wanted to get something going this summer and have won a couple of tournaments now because I’m playing the way I want to.”
