The 2019 champion shot 9-under to best the field by one shot after making a birdie on the final hole
Five years after winning the inaugural Ojai Senior Cup, Tim Hogarth of Northridge, Calif., won the 2024 Cup by one shot at Soule Park Golf Course in Ojai, Calif.
And he needed all 54 holes to do it.
Hogarth finished 9-under with rounds of 69-68-70 to defeat Mark C. Miller of West Covina, Calif., and Joe Sawaia of Henderson, Nev., by one shot. Miller and Sawaia finished 8-under and T2.
All three golfers stood on the par-5 No. 18 tied for the lead at 8-under, and Hogarth was able to take advantage of the final hole, recording a birdie. Since Miller and Sawaia made pars, Hogarth secured the one-shot win.
Hogarth becomes the first multiple-time winner in the Senior Division.
Hogarth is ranked No. 41 in the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings.
Defending champion Greg Sato of South Pasadena, Calif., shot the best final round of the day with a 5-under 67 to propel into solo fourth place at 5-under, and Neal Barfield of Dallas, Tex., and Mark Strickland of San Diego, Calif., finished T5 at 4-under.
Robby Funk of Canyon Lake, Calif., was the pacesetter of the first two days, getting out to 8-under and holding the 36-shot lead with rounds of 67-68. However, a final round 5-over 77 saw him fall to 3-under overall and solo seventh place.
John Derrick of Waco, Tex., and Bobby Schaeffer of Santa Barbara, Calif., finished 2-under and T8, and Doug Krone of Laguna Niguel, Calif, finished even par and in tenth place to round out the top ten.
John Mack
In the Super Senior Division, John Mack of Alta Loma, Calif., shot 2-over and carded rounds of 76-73-69 to win by two shots. His final round, 3-under 69, consisted of six birdies and three bogeys.
There was a four way tie heading into the back nine in the division, but birdies from Mack on holes No. 16 and 18 saw him pull away for the two shot win.
Craig Calkins of Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Steve Lass of Santa Barbara, Calif., finished T2 at 4-over.
