VARIOUS SITES ACROSS THE USA (July 26, 2017) - Qualifying for the 2017 U.S. Amateur has been completed at 100 qualifying sites across the U.S., and in Canada, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
The USGA
accepted 7,149 entries for the 117th U.S. Amateur Championship, scheduled for August 14-20, 2017 at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, CA, and Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, CA.
Highlights from qualifying include:
July 3
Parathakorn Suyasri of Thailand, who will be playing college at Colorado State this fall, shot a 135 to beat the field by two shots at the Columbine Valley, Co qualifier. Suyasri finished T28 on the Asian Tour's Thailand Open earlier this year. 2014 Pacific Northwest Amateur champion
Cole Madey of West Linn, OR also qualified. Madey also recently
won the Oregon Amateur.
July 5
Alex Springer of Olathe, KS, winner of the
2016 Magnolia Amateur, advanced from the Wadsworth, IL qualifier.
Ian Holt from Stow, OH and Kent State University, qualified for his third straight U.S. Amateur, earning medalist honors at the Columbus, OH qualifier.

A pair of Canadians took the two spots available at the York, ME qualifier.
Hugo Bernard, who won the
Canadian Amateur, the
NCAA Division II Championship, and the
Orlando International Amateur in 2016, shot a 140 to clear the field by three shots.
Joey Savoie, who recently finished runner-up at the Monroe Invitational, survived a 3-for-1 playoff for the final spot, sending him to the U.S. Amateur for the third straight year.
Kyle Mueller of Watkinsville, GA and the University of Michigan, winner of this year's
Aggie Invitational and last year's
Windon Memorial, advanced from the Blythewood, SC qualifier shooting 138.
Philip Barbaree of Shreveport, LA and LSU, who finished runner-up at the South Beach International Amateur last winter, won the Euless, TX qualifier by two shots with a 133.
Sean Carlon of Albuquerque, NM and the University of New Mexico, also qualified. Carlon was the runner-up at the Southwestern Amateur in June.
Mid-amateur
Mike Calef of W. Bridgewater, MA who has won multiple Massachusetts Amateur titles, was co-medalist at the Cranston, RI qualifier with a 142.

won this year's Azalea Invitational and was runner-up in the Monroe Invitational, took the only spot at the Salix, PA qualifier, beating the field by three shots with a 135.
Canadian
Chris Crisologo, who was runner-up in the Glencoe Invitational and who had a top 20 finish in a PGA Tour Canada event this year, medaled at the Cle Elum, WA qualifier.
Mid-Am
Jack Schultz of Whitefish Bay, WI was the medalist at the Cedar Springs, MI qualifier with a 141.
July 7
Doc Redman of Raleigh, NC and Clemson University medaled by five shots at the Sanford, NC qualifier. Redman made the final 32 of last year's U.S. Amateur at Oakland Hills. At the time of the qualifier, Redman was #25 in the
Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Amateur Ranking.

winning the Lytham Trophy, finishing runner-up in the English Amateur (Brabazon Trophy) and the Avondale Amateur Medal in Australia, and finishing in the top 10 in the European Amateur, British Amateur and Australian Amateur. Recent Northeast Amateur runner-up and World #17
Theo Humphrey of Greenwich, CT and Vanderbilt University also qualified, as did

Alex Lee of Sacramento, CA was the co-medalist at the Rancho Murieta, CA qualifier with a 136.

Kenny Coakley of Phoenix, AZ, who made the final 32 in last year's U.S. Mid-Amateur, was medalist at the Morton, MN qualifier with a 138.
Will Gordon of Davidson, NC and Vanderbilt University who won the 2015 Greystone Invitational and made the Western Amateur semifinals last year, advanced from the Monroe, NC qualifier. Medalist
Jacob Solomon of Dublin, CA and Auburn University lapped the field by four shots with a 128.

Brett Patterson of McMinnville, TN won the Hamilton, NY qualifier with a 142.

Dylan Wu of Medford, OR and Northwestern University, earned medalist honors at the Glen Ellyn, IL qualifier with a 139. Wu recently traveled to the U.K. to compete in the British Amateur, European Amateur and British Open Regional and Final Qualifying.

Three spots were available at the Normal, IL qualifier, but four players shot 139 to share medalist honors. A 4-for-3 playoff was held, from which

Scott Shingler of Haymarket, VA, a former U.S. Men's State Team runner-up, advanced from the Newport News, VA qualifier.

Jordan Costello of Pinedale, WY medaled for the second year in a row, shooting a 137 to win by three at the Casper, Wy qualifier. Costello also medaled at the U.S. Open Local qualifier this spring.

Raul Pereda took the only spot available, shooting 136 to clear the field by three shots. Pereda helped his Jacksonville University golf team make the NCAA Championships for the first time in program history this year.

John Pak of Scotch Plains, NJ who was the runner-up in the Terra Cotta Invitational this spring, endured difficult conditions at the Clifton, NJ qualifier to medal by one shot at 145.

Daulet Tuleubayev went low at the Turlock, CA qualifier, shooting a 10-under 62 followed by a 67 to finish at 15-under 129, four shots clear of the field.

Garrett Rank shot a course record at Granite Golf Club in Stouffville, Ontario to win the qualifier by five shots over

Jake McNulty. Rank is currently ranked #3 in the
AmateurGolf.com Mid-Amateur Rankings and in recent years has had runner-up finishes in the Sunnehanna Amateur, Players Amateur, and U.S. Mid-Amateur.
At the Covington, LA qualifier,
Shane Sigsbee of Las Vegas, NV, who was part of the winning team at last month's
Anderson Memorial at Winged Foot, was co-medalist with James Anstiss of New Zealand, who was runner-up in the North & South Amateur this summer.
Mid-amateurs swept the three qualifying spots available at the Rochester, MI qualifier. Michiganders

Jeff Champine all punched their tickets to Riviera, clearing the rest of the field by four shots.
Two qualifiers were held in the New York City area, and both produced runaway wins for the respective medalists. At the Purchase, NY qualifier,
Cameron Young of Scarbrough, NY shot a 10-under 134 to win by seven shots. Young made the final 16 in last year's U.S. Amateur at Oakland Hills. At the Huntington, NY qualifier,
Gerald Mackedon went two better, winning by nine shots as the only player under par at 9-under 131.

William Rainey of Charlotte, NC (and the College of Charleston) also qualified.
Kavan Eubank of Corpus Christi, TX and Texas A&M University took the lone qualifying spot at the Kuna, ID qualifier, where over half the field broke par. Eubank shot 66-65 for a 13-under 131 total.
July 19
Two massive 132-for-4 qualifiers were completed in the Atlanta area.
