ST. LOUIS, MO (May 7, 2017) - Sam Migdal is kicking off his 2017 campaign just as he did 2016, which led to 2016 Metropolitan Player of the Year honors. Migdal would have to face Skip Berkmeyer, who he faced in the 2016 final, to capture the title.
Migdal began his day at 7:00a with a Semifinal match with fellow Norwood Hills CC member Phil Caravia. Caravia was seeking his second Old Warson Cup title having won the championship in 2014. It would be all Migdal in this match however. Migdal would build his lead to 3up through 9 holes and then close out the victory at 14 with a 5&4 victory.
Berkmeyer and Chad Niezing would tangle in the second Semifinal match at 7:15am. The Legends CC members would halve the first two holes out of the gate, the Berkmeyer would roll off 4 straight wins to build a 4up lead at the turn. Niezing would chip away back to 2-down; however, it was Berkmeyer ending the match at 16 for a 3&2 victory.
In the final, Berkmeyer gained the upper hand with a long birdie putt at the 1st to strike first. Migdal, with a par at 4, would get the match back to Even and continue his string of pars through the front 9 to a 4up lead. Berkmeyer sunk his second birdie of the match after a beautiful approach on 11 to get back to 3-down. Migdal would get that lead back on the next hole after a bogey by Berkmeyer and would then close out the match on 16 with a par to win 4&2.
