JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (March 24, 2017) -- It was a week to remember for Jeremy Freiburghaus at the Northern Amateur Open. First he earned medalist honors with a 17-under showing during the 72-hole stroke play portion of the event and then he won five matches to take home the title.
With the championship match at the Firethorn Course of the Randpark Golf Club reduced to 18-holes Freiburghaus fell behind early before rallying from down two against Matt Saulez.
Saulez got off to a good start with wins on the 2nd and 3rd holes to take a quick 2 up lead and he held that advantage until Freiburghaus started to chip into the deficit with a 7th hole victory. Following a halve on the 8th, Freiburghaus squared the match on the ensuing hole and then took the lead for good on No. 10.
From that moment on Freiburghaus worked on extending his lead and after a hole winning par on the 17th hole the Switzerland native closed out the title match 3&1.
Freiburghaus made his way to the finals with a 4&3 semifinal win over Eric Wowor while Saulez handled Kyle McClatchie 3&1.
