Kevin Roberts wins Rain-Shortened S.C. Tournament of Champions

PAULY ISLAND, SC (January 22, 2017) -- Due to rain and course conditions, the final round of the 21st Tournament of Champions at the Tradition Club has been cancelled.
Final results have been based off of round one scores and ties for first place were broken using the USGA Score Card method.
ROUND ONE RECAP
The 21st Annual Tournament of Champions is underway at The Tradition Club in Pawleys Island and 88 Champions from 2016 were greeted with wet and foggy conditions for the first round. With periods of rain throughout the day, all competitors played hard and did their part to get the round in.
After the completion of round one the leader in Men’s Club Division is Kevin Roberts of Chesnee with a 3-under score of 69. In the Senior Club Division, Columbia’s Jim Wise holds a four shot lead after a first 3-under round 69. There is a three way tie in the One Day Gross Division with a score of 75.
Greenwood’s Chris Barnes has a one shot lead in the One Day Senior Division with a score of 73. Makalyn Poole from Williamston leads the ladies with a score of 79 to take the top position in the Women’s Division. In the One Day Net Division Glenn Allen and Donald Stegall are tied with a net score of 65.
The 21st Annual Tournament of Champions is being played over the Tradition Golf Club layout in Pawleys Island, S.C. The field consists 88 men & women Club and One Day tournament Champions throughout South Carolina.

ABOUT THE
South Carolina Tournament of Champions
With the first event held in January of 1997, The
Tournament of Champions was created to honor the
Champions of the SCGA Member Club events and
the
SCGA One Day Tournaments throughout the year
prior.
Participants compete against one another in flights
based on how they qualified. Flights are broken up
as Men's Club Champions, Men's Senior Club
Champions, SCGA One Day Gross winners, SCGA
One Day Net winner, SCGA One Day Senior winners
and a Women's Division that includes both Women's
Club Champions and WSCGA One Day winners.
Each
flight plays from a predetermined set of tees and
competes only against other players in their
respective flight.
From the first event of 42 players, the Tournament
of
Champions now reaches capacity and has become of
one of the highlights for many players throughout
the year.
